The Uncertain

My last year in college has finally approached and I am absolutely going a little insane. Although I am very happy and relieved that I am almost there, it scares me that I don’t know  what my career and life will be like. Where will I live? Will I have a roommate? Will I have the job that I WANT once I graduate? So many questions and so little time to figure this out…

See, I finally figured out the “title” of my “dream” job and I want to be a Creative Director for fashion/retail related agency and eventually have my own company. The thought of this dream, this very big dream, overwhelms me but excites me! Over these 5 years in school (yes 5 years) I have grown and developed several skills and passions:

  • Taking leadership positions
  • Blogging about fashion & different lifestyles
  • Photography
  • Connecting with people
  • Fashion illustration
  • Writing
  • Working as a part-time stylist

I love all of these things equally and I want to do it all, I ask myself sometimes if I should focus on a few things, but the way my mind works, I have to incorporate the above items in my life and career.

Recently, I read an article that explained your dream job might not exist and that I would have to create it, thanks to NYC PR Girls, I am a firm believer that I have to do this. Placing limits on my dreams is not an option for me right now, especially since I have tapped into my potential. I have something great to offer to this world and I am going to do it no matter how scared I am of the uncertainties.

So if you’re reading this and can relate, just know your time for greatness is coming. The timing will be right, you will be where you are supposed to be and doing what you love. I am a strong believer in speaking positive affirmations out daily or just jotting them down so I stay focused. I encourage you to do the same with any dreams you have.

Thanks for reading!

Sunday Funday Style

So lately I’ve been having Sundays off from work, which I need since my schedule is so packed. From trying new restaurants and doing some thrift shopping, I’ve been enjoying time with myself. Sunday is usually a day of rest and preparing for the next week, so I definitely take advantage of it to go exploring and retaining peace within myself.

With these adventures that I have, I am also able to get to know myself and love me even more. Recently someone asked if I my life would be better if I had a “special”  someone in my life, and I told them no. My life doesn’t revolve around being with someone to make me happy, instead I am taking full advantage of being a single woman, or else I wouldn’t be able to take my “Sunday Funday” adventures. I am learning daily to really love who I am, and not to be vain, I’m pretty cool to hang out with! The message that I am wanting to get through to you is that it’s ok to be a single woman or man right now. Take this time to develop yourself, go on an adventure, try a new restaurant!

Spookieloo Teams up with 1426 Fashion Week!

LS1426FW2

Good afternoon everyone! I have exciting news for you all! I recently just met with Linda Scott, Delray Bach, FL native, Founder and CEO of LS 1426 Inc. that consults and plans special events, emphasizing on the plus size industry. I’m ecstatic about this opportunity because she sought after me to blog about her 1426 Fashion Week, coming up on October 15-19! The week will be filled with a fashion show, workshops and even a student design competition, in which the winner will win an amazing prize (I can’t spill the beans just yet!). As well Ms. Scott is known for consulting new and upcoming designers/models in the plus size industry, so that they have a strong platform to start their career on.

What I also enjoyed about my meeting with Ms. Scott, was how inspiring she was, as a young woman I often look for guidance and mentorship in the fashion industry, which I feel like will happen with this “divine” partnership. She also strongly believes in uplifting young men and women with their self esteem, by hosting “Tea Parties” and “Boot camps” for teens, college aged women and adults. This just goes to show, that Ms. Scott is deeply rooted in supporting her community and making sure that they succeed!

Scott believes, "Many of the problems women have with self-esteem as well as health, begin early on. If we can reach girls before self destructive patterns begin, we will see great success in their lives."

2014 Plus Size Brand Names You need to know!

I’m extremely pumped about the variety of plus size clothing lines out here for the big girls! This summer, I actually have options to choose from and don’t have to resort to covering up during this dreadful heat. As a curvy woman, I have a hard time trying to find clothes that are cute, fit good and are reasonably priced. What I am sharing with you, is my go-to list of places to shop, hoping you’ll have a fashionable summer as well!

Let’s first start locally, right here in Houston!

The Ultimate Dressing Room

This was my first internship as a sales associate and I loved every minute of it! This particular boutique caters to plus size women and always has unique and stylish clothing for women of bigger sizes. If you’re a fellow Houstonian, stop by and be instantly welcomed by its owner, Sumptuous Sulay; she gives great advice and is honest when it comes to finding the right fit! Tell her I sent you:)

Alright now everyone, let’s see what else is out there!

Nakimuli

This company is based out of Brooklyn, NY and doesn’t skimp on the stylish and sexy! With the bold prints, bright colors and stretch fabric, this is a brand name you want in your wardrobe. I am especially in love with their new swim line, “No Room for Saints”. Can we say FLY?! I’m currently browsing their website for more swimsuits this summer and for upcoming beach trips (I just need another excuse to buy something)  As well, I am also excited that they use all sizes for their models, which makes me feel like I can definitely wear their pieces.

50Limes

I love their philosophy on fashion, “Nothing over $50” and “being fresh with a little edge”. Their plus size category is great for casual encounters with friends or wanting to embrace those curves. With my current dress obsession, 50Limes is definitely the place I turn to find great fits and quality clothing, I encourage you to shop with them! And I can’t forget that “Nothing over $50” concept, that in itself makes me want to shop even more!

I'm so in love with this dress! 50 Limes

With her new collection “The Summer of Love”, you are bound to fall in love with your items and possibly someone else too 😉 Monif C.  is also a great brand to have in your closet, because their clothes are great quality and are appealing to look at! Forever 21

Forever 21 is my go-to for about good portion of my wardrobe. I love that they actually have a section for us to shop in store, no more drab over here! I also get my jeans from them and have noticed a change in their quality of denim. They are definitely in my shopping budget and have a variety of clothing up to a size 3x! What’s even cooler about this company,  is that their style of clothing changes when you’re in different regions of the U.S! For instance, when I traveled to Chicago last year, I found great items I wouldn’t be able to find back in my Texas home.

Eloquii

Fresh. Chic. Fabulous. Those 3 words basically sum up of how I feel about this clothing line. One of my favorite pieces to have are colored pants, especially the ones that hit at the ankle, they carry these in all sorts of fun colors! With having a bigger bottom, it’s so hard to find something that fits my lower half. Eloquii has also launched their new summer collection too, “East of Eden”. This particular collection gives that feeling of long summer days, taking weekend trips and just relaxing on the beach with some tropical drink in hand. Whenever I think of this brand, I envision a hard-working woman, dressed stylishly, in the freshest of threads. Shop at Eloquii!

MYNT 1792

A “lifestyle brand” based out of NY, creates clothing for curvy women all around the globe. Their specialty to me, is in the “street wear” department, I mean why wouldn’t they be? New York is a huge runway to sport your street chic style anyway. I also love this brand because they partner with top fashion bloggers and other fashionistas, to create clothing that women can actually wear. Their clothing line is geared more towards the city slicker, with a busy schedule and fabulous life!

I am in the process of ordering this now and probably other items too. Just know that this company has a great assortment for your needs and carries a variety of clothing.

True Life: I Procrastinate…A lot!

Procrastination

The above picture is currently my life right now, although it seems funny, my procrastination levels have severely altered my path in life and I am at the point of “jeopardizing my future”. This post isn’t my usual fashion or style captures, but to be honest with everyone and myself about how my much procrastination has  ruined many aspects of my life. This is NOT to discourage you at all but to hopefully bring us in harmony of getting our sh** together!

The 20s Blues:

So I just turned 22 and I am all over the place with my life; dating, work, school, health, finances, and my spirituality. I feel that these facets of my life are not in tune and that I’m constantly fishing for stability in everything. Unfortunately there isn’t just one manual to tell me all the answers to this beautiful journey, called life. As well, I’m constantly questioning if I’m supposed to be doing what I’m supposed to do in regards to school and my career. You set your mind on your passion (writing, designing, etc.) and then something else comes along to change that. That’s where I’m at now in life; I’m searching for that specific task , that will bring me fulfillment and purpose.

Well being in my 20s has so far taught me that there is uncertainty and adventure around every corner, that’s a scary thought! But I am slowly coming to terms in embracing this phase of my life and trying my hardest to live my life fully. Sometimes I also wonder if I should go with the crowd and settle for life, with not taking risks and living a zest-less life. Who am I kidding though, that’s NOT me!

The Procrastination Struggle:

With this topsy-turvy phase of my life, I have developed the trait of full-blown procrastination. This isn’t something I am proud of, but I know I can find a way to get out of this rut, that’s why I’m sharing this with you all! Since starting college I had this goal to finish in 4 years and go straight to my amazing fashion career, but oh did life say “Hell no! I’ve got other plans for you!”. I am still in college and I guess considered a 5th year senior because of my poor decision-making and not putting enough effort into my education. Dealing with this struggle of constantly putting things off until the last-minute has given me nothing but anxiety and elevated my stress. I don’t understand why I keep pushing the limits and not giving myself enough time accomplish my goals. I am honestly envious of those special people who plan everything out and get sh** done, how can I join the club?(seriously though)

So, at this point in my life, I have to make the decision to overcome this struggle, it’s psychologically effecting the progress of my life. I want to be more consistent and complete projects that I started, I don’t want to be that person who people can’t depend on. As I get older, life gets more complicated, so I want to be ready for anything, not put it off…

This is where I come to all and ask, how do you get sh** done in an appropriate amount of time? What are your quirky secrets to accomplishing your goals? (I know you have some).

I hope that through this post, we can identify with each other and that you see me as an honest blogger and more importantly, a human being. I’m going to embrace this phase of my life and hope that you do the same, wherever you are.

Birthday Weekend Recap!

My weekend visit to Dallas for my birthday was absolutely what I wanted and needed. It was filled with great weather, tropical drinks and good vibes. From the buffet of barbeque to the crazy family dances I was intoxicated by the influx of affection from both sides of my family. The atmosphere was a peaceful chaos, bringing me a much needed break from my 40+ hour a-week-work life. I also got the chance to rekindle some relationships with friends, stay up all night with my cousins and just had a great time all around; and I did it in style of course!

Birthday Outfit! My weekend started out in Houston, so I decided to go for a more casual, easy look.
