Pencil Skirt Party!

With the Spring season in, there are so many trends to follow; bold prints, neon colors and floral on everything! While all those styles are great, I like to stick with a classic that never goes away: The Pencil Skirt. This is my favorite piece in my wardrobe because I can wear it from work, on my weekend adventures and when I want to mix things up. Having at least 3 staple pencil skirts can add a great foundation to your wardrobe.

Let’s begin your journey on finding what works for you!

The Anatomy of a Pencil Skirt
First let’s start at why these skirts are great by looking at the structure of a pencil skirt:

Now that we have a the basic knowledge of what this skirt can do for you, we can move forward on how to style them, my favorite part!!

Style # 1: The Professional

In the work field, professional attire is a requirement for the majority of companies. This doesn’t mean you have to wear boring, dark colors, you can still look profession but stylish and here’s how below:

For this style, it’s eye catching and still looks work appropriate. This pencil skirt has an interesting weave pattern that can go with the colors in it, or as I styled it, add the soft pink peplum top to tone down the skirt.  With adding accessories, go for a pointed pump in a solid color to finish off that elongated look. Lastly, add your work pearls and black tote, and you are ready to brighten up the workplace!

Style # 2 On-the-Go Glam

As I was looking through pintrest around 4 a.m. I came across this lovely style from SindyStylz and knew I had to find myself a denim pencil skirt. I used to wear them when I was younger, but they eventually grew out of style. Seeing this though, reminded me how much I loved denim pencil skirts. This style is perfect for spring, it’s classic and simple. You could totally do this your way, by adding a statement piece necklace and different colored top.

Here is my rendition of her style:

I added a few pops of color and even a good cup of Starbucks coffee, I mean I am a glam girl and always on the go, I need my coffee! The denim skirt is a great neutral foundation to play up any style for day or night looks, try it also with bold colored accessories with shoes and a fab necklace!

I'm always on the go, but I still need to look great and comfortable. This style allows you to run errands, grab coffee and it's perfect for spring/summer!

Style # 3 All Mixed Up

Mixing prints can be a daunting task because well, you’re mixing two or more different prints that don’t match. Some people even think it’s tacky and out of style, but I’m here to tell you that it’s all of these things actually. Don’t get me wrong, I love this style a lot, because it’s different and not everyone understands why you’re mixing prints. Embracing this style adds elevation to your wardrobe, you’re considered interesting and “in the mix” of all things fashion. Hopefully by me showing you how to mix prints, you’ll want to do it and be bold in your styling!

To date, this style is one of my favorites, especially living in Houston with its constant minute changing weather. On this particular day, it was a nice breeze so I opted for my favorite ripped jeans from New York and Company and this thrifted poncho top from Buffalo Exchange. As well my shoes are from Forever21 and are so comfortable and stylish too! My favorite part about this outfit, are the jeans because they are my size and I never would have thought to buy them from New York and Company. They also carry sizes up to 18 and are perfect for women who are bottom heavy, like myself, so check them out!

I don’t know about you, but I’m ecstatic about the different Spring styles for Plus Size women, I finally feel that our voices are being heard and that we are taking control of what we want to wear. No more covering up to hide our bodies because we are programmed to feel inadequate. There are clothes out there for us and we can be stylish too. I am motivated daily because I see women my size and bigger, embracing their hips, butt, thighs etc. and that truly makes me want to LOVE my body even more!
